This weekend on social media, talk show host Wendy Williams came under some heat for comments she made last week about Bruce Jenner.
The specific comments people took issue with were when Williams said, “If this wasn’t an obligation due to my career, I wouldn’t watch. I feel duped by Bruce… I don’t feel duped because he’s turning into a woman. I feel duped because he’s the same fame whore as the rest of the family… Bruce has bigger fish to fry than turning into Belinda. He should have thought about [transitioning] before he had all the kids… Belinda, shame on you!”
This morning on her show, Williams addressed her thoughts on Jenner after his 20/20 interview where he divulged that he is a woman.
“I cried almost the whole time,” Williams began. “17 million people watched. And Bruce really- Diane Sawyer did a really good job, but no matter how good you are as an interviewer- As an interviewer, no matter how good you are, if your subject is not gonna give it up, then it’s a big disappointment. He talked about everything.”
She continued discussing Jenner, asking her audience, “Did you cry the whole time watching it?… I’m happy for Bruce. I’m happy for anybody that can live in their own truth. And yeah he is brave, because his life will never be the same in terms of- he’ll be hunted like a wild dog for the rest of his life.”
“The thing about Bruce,” Williams added, “is that it was all so deceptive because he really is a fame hungry person like the rest of the family. I think watching the show we thought that he was the common force, the one that didn’t really want to be bothered.
Williams wrapped with saying that, “I’m happy for him.”
