Stellar acting, singing, and music combine to make a memorable show of Mama Mia at the State Theater in New Jersey.
Mama Mia was performed at New Brunswick, New Jersey’s State Theater on May 17 and it was a night to remember.
If you have never seen the show or movie, it centers around Sophie trying to determine which of three possible men might be her birth father before she walks down the aisle on her wedding day. Misunderstandings, miscommunication, and mishaps happen along the way creating funny, touching, and memorable moments.
I have seen the show before on Broadway and can honestly say that the dancing and of course the music of Abba was just as good as it is in New York. The male performers in the show were less talented singers than the women were, but that didn’t break the show as the females are the stars of the show. In their roles, they shined. Their singing, acting, and dancing was exceptional.
The State Theater is conveniently located within central New Jersey, right between New York City and Philadelphia and is located within walking distance to a train that serves New York’s Penn Station and the state of New Jersey. It’s a theather that gets premiere Broadway quality performances, as well as great concerts and comedians. Downtown New Brunswick has great hotels and restaurants as well, so it makes for a lovely evening out.
Some upcoming events at the State Theater feature a Broadway Spectacular with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra on May 31 (Buy tickets), Art Garfunkel on June 26 (Buy tickets), and Patti LaBelle on October 16 (Buy tickets).
If you get to go to see any performance at the State Theater you are bound to be impressed equally by the theater and performances showcased such as last week’s Mama Mia!
