“Twelve years ago,” patriarch Jim Bob began, “we went through one of the most darkest times that our family’s ever gone through. Our son Josh came to us on his own and he was crying and he had just turned 14. And he said that he had actually improperly touched some of our daughters.”
“We were shocked,” Michelle piped in with. “We were just devastated. I don’t think any parent is prepared for trauma like that. I think we had one ray of hope in that Josh had a tender conscience. He was the one that came and shared on his own, even though the others really didn’t know anything of his wrongdoing.”
“There was so much grief in our hearts,” she continued. “As parents, we felt like we’re failures. Here we’ve tried to raise our kids to do what’s right… and yet, one of our children made some really bad choices. I think as a parent we were devastated.”
Jim Bob further tried explaining his son’s actions, stating that, “He said he was just curious about girls and he had gone in and just eventually touched them over their clothes while they were sleeping. They didn’t even know he had done it… The first thing was to protect the girls… We had five girls at the time. Anyway- he went in and said he had done this- so we first off, of course really talked to him nd then we went and talked to all the girls and children.”
“It was so important for us as parents to talk to our girls and make sure that nothing else had happened,” Michelle added. “One by one as we talked with them none of them were aware of Josh’s wrongdoings.”
