One of my favorite things about every Tuesday is FYI‘s Married At First Sight. Recently, we’ve been posting exclusive interviews with members of the cast each week and today is no different! We were thrilled to get to talk to Tres Russell about his marriage to Vanessa Nelson. What did Tres have to tell us? Read our exclusive Q&A below!

Tres Russell Married At First Sight Exclusive Interview

Q: What made you want to do this show?

A: After college, it seems to get harder and harder to find “The One.” Having the opportunity to have experts match me up with someone was something that I couldn’t pass up on.

Q: What was going through your head moments before you got married?

A: Honestly, what did I get myself into? Standing at the alter and not knowing who was going to walk from behind the curtain was extremely tough. In that moment, that curtain couldn’t open fast enough.

Q: What was the first word that popped into your head when you saw your new spouse?

A: Stunning. I felt like I won the lottery when I saw Vanessa walking down the aisle. Was not expecting to get that lucky. Looks obviously aren’t everything, but I think physical attraction definitely helps when doing something as extreme as marrying a stranger.

Q: Knowing what you know now, would you repeat this experience again?

A; Definitely. Regardless of what the ending may be, I think this experience is something that has changed me forever. I continue to learn more about myself everyday. Having to truly open up and realize your strengths and areas of concern is something that has really shaped me into a better man.

Q: What was the hardest thing about being “married at first sight?” What was the easiest?

A: The hardest thing was not knowing who was going to be standing behind that curtain. Not knowing whether you were going to be attracted to them, or if you were going to be able to get along with them. The easiest thing was the wedding planning. The guest list was extremely hard, but the wedding planning didn’t seem like much at all.

Q: How has the show airing affected your life?

A: It is definitely strange getting recognized at times. I am definitely a people person, so I love meeting new people daily and chatting. However, when someone just walks up and says “Are you Tres?” I always take a step back like huh? Other than that, I think everything is pretty much the same.

Q: What has people’s general response been to the show?

A: Besides the people who think I am crazy for taking such a risk, I think everyone has been supportive for the most part. I love that people are so supportive, especially our families and friends. It would be so much more difficult if they weren’t there for us.

Q: What can we expect from you the rest of the season?

A: I think you can expect to see me open up more. When I decided to take part in this experience, I knew that the only chance it would work was if I was honest and upfront about everything. I think you will see me take chances and do things that take me out of my comfort zone. It is all about compromise.

Q: Looking back at what’s airing, do you feel you had some growing up to do?

A: I think I did a ton of growing up during the recruiting and matchmaking process. I really wanted to make myself the best man possible for my future wife. I knew I had to go from a bachelor to a husband, so I had to start thinking differently about how I was approaching life.

Q: Why do you feel it was such a big deal to Vanessa that you came home drunk one Sunday?

A: I think that it was a big deal to Vanessa because she didn’t feel safe at the time. It was just a big miscommunication that we moved past together. I was also working 60 hours a week with Audi and filming 30-40 hours a week, so I was exhausted that night when I came in. Really don’t think it had anything to do with the drinking, but more so to do with the communication and letting her know I was at home and in bed.

Q: Was there any awkwardness “consummating the marriage’ after 3 weeks or was it natural because you were attracted to- and married to- Vanessa?

A: I don’t think it was really awkward when we consummated our marriage. Everything felt really natural actually. The awkward moment was just figuring out when it was the right time. We were obviously attracted to each other from day one, but rushing into it could have set us up for failure.

Q: Anything else you want to add?

A: Anyone living in Miami that is single and truly wants to find happiness should apply for season 4 of Married At First Sight. It is a huge risk, but trust me when I say it will be worth it. If you go about it the right way, it will definitely make you a better person in the end.

We enjoyed our conversation with Tres! Check back next Tuesday to see what his wife, Vanessa, had to share!
